The client is a forward-thinking, healthcare IT service company with a consumer market consisting primarily of medical professionals. They provide a proprietary, EHR and practice management software platform that automates and organizes the following functionalities:
In addition, the client’s flagship platform provides a back-office revenue cycle management system that grants users the ability to submit electronic and paper claims to insurance companies and release billing statements to patients.
Bringing their vision of offering cloud-based alternatives to manual processes to fruition, the client sought additional development and application maintenance. In servicing their preexisting architecture the client desired to remain flexible and ahead of the technological curve, providing the market and their existing customers with a sturdy, full-featured EHR platform.
After considering the cost of filling the development job internally, the client decided to augment their internal team by collaborating with Chetu to bring their solution to market. The objective of the project was to design and develop an application that could receive the 835 EDI, parse it and insert the information into the database.
The project required Chetu to start with ANSI X.12 4010A 835 (Healthcare remittance advice) EDI transaction, building an EDI parser to further the rest of the development. First, Chetu downloaded the 835 EDI file from the specified channel—Availity, Medicare, Medicaid. This operation is done by Mule Service which connects directly to the client’s channel with their credentials, drawing from the specified transmission protocol.
One of the specified channels, Availity, has become incredibly prominent in Chetu’s healthcare software projects. Availity represents a leading information network in the healthcare landscape, connecting disjointed data exchange between providers and their technology vendors. Real-time troubleshooting and communication is at the heart of the Availity model, fostering richer relationships between stakeholders.
The EDI parser takes the downloaded files, parses them, and populates the JavaBean object, which is inserted into the database.

Using these technologies, Chetu engineered a complete and scalable EDI application. Electronic Data Interchange, has taken the healthcare industry by storm, offering up an alternative to manual data exchange. EDI makes informational exchange fast and seamless, significantly improving operational efficiency for data-heavy systems.
During the partnership, Chetu remained cognizant of HIPAA best-practices, implementing the solution in compliance with the national standards for electronic healthcare transactions and national identifiers for providers. The client went to market with their solution immediately after they concluded their relationship with Chetu, leveraging a solution that worked cohesively with the channels it was engineered around. Availity network now communicates freely with the client’s solution, aiding the healthcare industry in unifying disparate systems.
